Scion A/V Presents: MAGRUDERGRIND - CRUSHER EP

Magrudergrind - Crusher

Named after the local housing project in which they used to practice, D.C. trio Magrudergrind are among the vanguard of modern grindcore. Their latest EP, Crusher, is a testament to their craftsmanship and dedication to the form first created by the likes of Repulsion, Napalm Death and Terrorizer in the 1980s. Magrudergrind carries on the torch as the emperors of fast.

1. “Leech”

Channeling the mystical number ones through time, space and blastbeats, on “Leech,” Magrudergrind unload one minute and 11 seconds of blitzkrieg-style bliss all over everything and everyone, everywhere. Clearly, escape is futile.

2. “Conditioned Minds”

Through a flurry of cascading mega-riffs and scathing vocals, with “Conditioned Minds” Magrudergrind rail against those who shuffle through life without ever thinking for themselves. A sad story, perhaps, but at least it has a killer soundtrack.

3. “Incapacity Reigns”

If it somehow didn’t before, the title Crusher absolutely comes to fruition on “Incapacity Reigns,” a raging face-smoker. Devastating d-beat meets maniacal screams in a wind tunnel full of the meatiest Napalm Death-inspired riffs this side of Birmingham.

4. “Stagnant”

Featuring guest vocals from Agoraphobic Nosebleed growler Richard “Grindfather” Johnson, “Stagnant” is possibly the most frenzied track on Crusher. Call it a short, sharp shock to the nervous system. Or the brain pan. Or both. Either way, it’s over before you know it, and the only remedy is to press repeat.

5. “Heaviest Bombing”

On this leftfield cut, Los Angeles hip-hop duo Shadowrunners swing by to sweeten the sonic pot. First Magrudergrind spray the frenzy, then MC Himself The Majestic drops laidback rhymes over guest beats courtesy of his partner in crime, DJ Froskees.

6. “Cognition”

Clocking in at nearly five-and-a-half-minutes, “Cognition” is a veritable epic in Magrudergrind terms. Half-speed sludge riffs dominate the proceedings here, creating a slow build to an unnerving solo courtesy of guest guitarist Domenic Romeo of Pulling Teeth. Appropriately, it all ends in an ear-splitting barrage of feedback and white noise.
